It was a hot summer day when Steve Taylor put his tool box in the truck between the saw horse and electric cord. If you do it just right they don’t rattle while your driving. Steve is the owner of Raymac Construction and he had just put the finishing touches on another project when he heard his name being called from the clients open garage.

“Steve, come here for a minute” shouted George, the owner of the home.

“Just a minute Steve, I have something for you.” George had traveled the world and collected many things, art, statues, furniture. He was a wealthy man the appreciated the finer things in life. George was only on the job site now and then but when he was he made you feel as important as the president but never uncomfortable. He had that gift of charisma and a charming smile.

“Steve, I have something here that you should have,” George said.

“You my friend are one of the true cowboys, the ones that do everything they say they will do and then some. Steve, this sculpture called “Coming thru the Rye,” belongs to you.” With that he moved a cloth cover and revealed an incredible bronze sculpture of four cowboys on horse back at full gallop. The scene is the cowboy celebration that comes at the end of a strenuous two week cattle drive. It is a stunning piece of art. Steve of course refused at first. It was a large and obviously very valuable piece.

“No George it is too much but I really appreciate the gesture.” But George insisted, “Steve you must take it. It is my gift to you and I feel it belongs to you, not me. The original cowboys worked long and hard and did everything it takes to have a successful cattle drive. I may have bought it but you have lived its message and are an example of what it means.” Steve was overwhelmed and awestruck. He and George loaded the statue, shook hands and they both leaned on the tailgate chatting as the sun moved lower in the sky.

Steve still shows up on every jobsite to this day. If you have any doubt about hiring RAYMAC or you need to be reminded that there is an honest company that will do everything they say and then some, just take another look at this photo of the bronze statue by Fredrick Remington, “Coming through the Rye.”
